Happy World Environment Day 2018 – Lets pledge to ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ and save our Environment

World Environment Day began in 1974, by the United Nations. The General Assembly has given a human face to environmental issues. The first World Environment Day was held with the theme "Only One Earth". World Environment Day became a global platform for community outreach in raising awareness on environmental issues among the people of earth.

World Environment Day is for everyone, everywhere, to appreciate and explore nature. Each year, World Environment Day has a new subject that major establishments, NGOs, companies, communities, governments, and celebrities worldwide adopt to support environmental causes. This year the host nation is India and the World Environment Day theme for 2018 is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ – the theme invites everyone to make changes in their daily lives to reduce plastic pollution on our natural places, our wildlife - and our own health.

Whether you’re a school child, a citizen, a government, or a corporate, there is a responsibility for every resident on Earth – for everyone in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator. Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the Earth 4 times! Mounds of plastic snacks packets, plastic pet bottles and beer cans are threatening the highly fragile ecology. Single use plastics are choking up our planet and our oceans. One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed annually from plastic in our oceans. Plastic constitutes approximately 90% of all the trash floating on the ocean. 35 billion plastic water bottles are thrown away every year. Plastic bottles take 450 years or more to decompose, harming us and our environment. Environment is nurturing us since time immemorial, it’s time to pledge to protect it and preserve it. Let us reaffirm our commitment to a cleaner and sustainable planet. Let us refuse the plastic, we can't reuse!

Here are six things that you can do as a global citizen on World Environment Day:

  • Say NO to plastic
  • Build a small garden
  • Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Renew, Recycle
  • Plant more Trees
  • Celebrate Nature
  • Enhance Cleanliness

Prepare the younger generation to protect their supreme asset: Our planet Earth!

Earth loves you… Love it back.
