Teacher: Children, we are going to celebrate National Technology Day on May 11th, 2018. We are going to conduct a drawing competition for the same. Are all of you interested in participating in the same.
Students: Yes, teacher!

Iqbal: I’m so excited about the contest. I want to participate in it. What about you Rahul?

Rahul: I would also like to participate, but I don’t know what National Technology Day is all about. I should know something about it to participate, isn’t it?
Iqbal: True! We are having so many advanced technological tools like the internet to find information about anything from anywhere now. Let’s find out from Google.

Rahul: Hey Iqbal, look – the website says that it was on May 11th, 1998, that India successfully test-fired the Shakti – I nuclear missile at the Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan. The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of an aerospace engineer and late President APJ Abdul Kalam.

Iqbal: Yes. It also says that on the same day India’s first indigenous aircraft, the Hansa-3, a light two-seater general aviation plane to be used in flying institutes for pilot training, sports, surveillance, aerial photography and environment-related projects was flown in Bengaluru.

Rahul: Absolutely correct! It also happens to be the day when DRDO completed the final test-fire of Trishul missile which is part of India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.

Iqbal: Wow! We should feel so proud of our country. Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the then prime minister declared India as a nuclear state. Owing to all these achievements, he also declared May 11th to be celebrated as National Technology Day.

Rahul: Yes, Iqbal. On this day, every year, National Awards are given to the country’s great scientists, engineers, and technicians who have ensured to use technology for the betterment of society. It helps in attracting youth to embrace science.

Iqbal: I wish to be a scientist too!
Rahul: Me too!
